9-year-old girl, 3 others shot in Old Fourth Ward

ATLANTA — Atlanta police said they want to know if the shooting at a playground that hurt four people is connected to recent random shootings or a shooting at a nearby nightclub.

One of those injured in the Tuesday night shooting was a 9-year-old girl.

Tiara Willams said she's surprised no one was killed.

"They were rapid, like boom, boom, boom," Williams told Channel 2's Audrey Washington. "We just saw kids hollering and screaming for their mothers basically all the mothers were trying to get their child because the shots were going everywhere."

Williams said the shootout inside the park in the 400 block of Parkway Drive in northeast Atlanta, came with no warning.

In all, four people were shot: two young teens, a 20-year-old woman and the 9-year-old girl.

Williams told Washington that she is friends with the girl's mother.

"Gunshots, they were everywhere," Williams said.

Williams said the shooters took off. She said her friend then picked up her 9-year-old daughter and ran to get help.

The girl was shot in the leg. She survived. The three other victims also survived.

While processing the scene, Atlanta police found several shell casings from two different guns. They are now searching for the shooters.

Neighbors say something has to change.

"You cannot keep endangering our children, these are our future," said neighbor Caron Clements.

"Everybody is just praying that things get better out here because there's too much going on," Williams said.
