"A guy knocked on my window. I opened the door and said, 'yeah,' and he had a gun in front of him," the victim told Channel 2's Mike Petchenik. "He said you do what I tell you to. I got out and he said to sit on the curb. He said he had somebody watching me. Don't call nobody and don't go inside. And he took off with my car."

"Apparently when the suspect was getting the keys from the victim he actually shook hands with the victim before he left," said Capt. Mike Lindstrom with the Sandy Springs Police Department.

Lindstrom says the man shook his victim's hand before stealing his Chrysler 300 and heading north on Roswell Road toward Interstate 285.

"We try to remind people, again, to be more aware of your surroundings. And it doesn't really matter what time of day we're talking about," Lindstrom told Petchenik.

Customer Chandrise Ross said the attack is surprising.

"It's really scary," Ross said. "I was always comfortable over here until that incident."

Ross told Petchenik she'll be changing up her routine in light of the carjacking.

"I’ll shop during the day and make sure I park closer to the door," Ross said.

Kroger sent Petchenik a statement about the incident saying:

"Customer and associate safety is a priority at Kroger, and we regret this situation happened. We are fortunate  our associate was not physically injured, and are cooperating fully with local law enforcement as they investigate this incident."
