Estimated 6,000 still without power after snow storm

ATLANTA — LATEST NUMBERS:

• Georgia Power says 300 customers without power as of 6 p.m. Monday.
• Georgia EMC said more than 6,000 customers still do not have power. That is down from 150,000 without power Saturday.

Crews are working to restore power to thousands of customers who lost service during the winter weather.

At the peak of the storm on Friday and Saturday, hundreds of thousands of people in north Georgia were without power.

Channel 2 Action News has been checking in with Georgia Power and Georgia EMC as crews continue to work around the clock.

As of about 4 p.m. Monday, 300 Georgia Power customers were still without power. Crews have restored power to around 375,000 people since noon on Friday.

More than 6,000 EMC customers remained without power across north Georgia.

Georgia Power told Channel 2 Action News they want to remind customers to keep safety first during severe winter weather and offers multiple tools and resources to stay connected and informed. 
 
After the Storm Safety Tips: 

• Watch for downed wires. Downed power lines may be hidden by snow, debris or fallen trees.
• Never touch any downed wire or attempt to remove tree branches from power lines – it can kill.
• Don't step in standing water or saturated ground where downed lines may be present. They could be electrified.
• Avoid chain link fences. They may be electrified by a downed line out of sight and conduct electricity over great distances.
