Man with disability found malnourished, children unsupervised at home, police say

ATLANTA — Atlanta police are investigating after finding several unsupervised children and a malnourished man with a disability in a home.

Atlanta police said officers were called to a home on Thornberry Lane in southwest Atlanta regarding children without supervision and a 21-year-old who appeared malnourished.

The 21-year-old man was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition, police said.

The parents, identified as Shalanda Monroe and Jarvais Monroe, are scheduled to be in court Monday morning.

Police said the people who used to live in the house went back to pick up some of their belongings Saturday, and that is when they saw a serious problem and called for help.

Police say when they got inside the home, they saw the children and a 21-year-old man who did not look like he had been eating.

Police said the children did not appear to be malnourished.

At some point, the parents arrived at the home while police were still there and police arrested them.
