Victim begged group of men to leave him alone before shooting

ATLANTA — Police are searching for a group of men who followed a driver from a gas station and shot into his truck.

The victim was shot in the leg and is recovering.

Channel 2's Audrey Washington was in southwest Atlanta, where police said they responded to a call of a shooting on Delowe Dr. Tuesday morning.

Washington spoke with the victim, Stacey Arbee, as he recovered at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Arbee told Washington he was filling up his tank at a gas station when he saw a group of men put on masks. He was afraid he was going to be robbed so he told the men to "not do this," got in his car and drove away, he told police.

Arbee said the men followed him, pulled up next to his car as he drove on Campbellton Rd. and started firing.

"They rolled down the window and then started shooting and I hit the gas," Arbee said. "I was going to drive myself to Grady, but I thought about traffic, so I just got off at the next exit.”

Arbee drove to a Texaco near Langford Parkway to get help.

In the surveillance video Washington obtained, you can see the moment Arbee begged for help at the gas station on Delowe Drive in southwest Atlanta. He was bleeding from a gunshot wound to the leg.

This video shows a good Samaritan on the phone with police, while the other person runs to get something to stop the bleeding.

“He called me and said, 'Mama, I’ve been shot' and I said, 'Stop playing,'" Arbee's mother told Washington.

She was too upset to show her face, but said this all started as a botched robbery.

So far, police don’t have a good description of the shooters or the car, but Washington learned they’re going through surveillance video at the other gas station to hopefully get more details.
