16-year-old honor roll student killed after leaving shift at Zaxby's

NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. — A family is facing an unimaginable tragedy after a 16-year-old honor student was shot and killed after leaving work at Zaxby’s.

Quinten Kevon Martin's manager was dropping him off from work on Greenway Drive in Newton County Wednesday night when someone opened fire.

Both Martin and the manager were shot. The teen later died. The manager was taken to a hospital. Police say at least two people were involved in the shooting and they sped off.

Channel 2's Audrey Washington talked to Martin's father, Roddick Foster, who said his son would have been 17 next month and was an honor roll student at Alcovy High School. He was working double shifts to save money for a car and wanted to become a pilot.

"He was just a good kid," Foster said.

Foster said he thinks his son's death was a case of mistaken identity. Foster said his son's manager also typically drops off another employee after work, and that other employee had an issue with another teen.

Foster believes that teen was the real target.

"He didn’t even get a chance to get out of the car," Foster said. "They just pulled up and opened fire. I think they shot up the car, like 10 times."

He said the killers need to know they shot the wrong teen.

"Y'all just took everything away from him at an early age. It was senseless," Foster said. "Just turn yourself in."

Channel 2's Tom Jones talked to a neighbor, who said she saw the gunman firing at Martin.

Adrianna Bailey said she was outside with a friend when she heard gunshots and saw an SUV fly right past her house and speed off.

She said the second victim, Martin's manager, was running around pleading for someone to help. Bailey said it felt like it took a while for deputies to arrive and that Martin's manager was frantic.

"The lady was just out here screaming," Bailey said.

Bailey said the shots she heard were loud and continuous.

"We heard 'Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!' It was like eight or 10 shots," she said.

Martin's manager is still in the hospital.

The Newton County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information to contact them.
