4-year-old dies after he was pulled from pond near his home in Rockdale County

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. — A 4-year-old boy has died after he was recovered from a pond near his home in Conyers.

A sheriff K9 and his handler spotted 4-year-old Legend Benton around 11 p.m. Saturday night, Rockdale County fire spokesman Jacade Long said.

Deputies pulled Benton from the water and immediately performed CPR before he was rushed to a local hospital.

He did not survive.

Benton was reported missing to the Rockdale County Sheriff's Department around 8:53 p.m. Saturday night.

The sheriff's department, Rockdale fire and Conyers police arrived on the scene and began searching for Benton before they found him in the pond.

Long said the pond where Benton was found is located in the neighborhood where he lived.
