Summer's Treehouse ReBuild at Chastain Park

The Chastain Park Conservancy is saddened to share that our iconic playground treehouse was destroyed in a fire on Saturday night (5/14/22). Fortunately, no one was hurt. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the fire department. Although heartbroken, we remain grateful to the community for its outpouring of support, and charge forward with a goal to rebuild.

Our beloved treehouse—which we called Summer's Treehouse—was a centerpiece to the playground and visited by tens of thousands children each year. We put tremendous care into making sure it was compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). It represented a spirit of inclusivity—beckoning all to climb, imagine, and simply play.

As our past vice chair, Jay Smith, said upon learning the news of the destruction: "We will rebuild. We’ll use this as an opportunity to teach our children resilience. And that is something with a lifetime of permanence."

The Conservancy Board and staff ask for your patience and ongoing support as we continue our work to restore, enhance, maintain, and preserve Chastain Park. We thank everyone who made our original treehouse possible. Together, we look forward to a future treehouse ribbon cutting on behalf of all the children who love Chastain Park.
