Atlanta police release video of SUV tied to murder of Atlanta businessman, father

ATLANTA — The Atlanta Police Department released video and new information related to the shooting death of a businessman and father Monday morning in midtown.

Desmond Key was shot and killed outside a luxury apartment building along Juniper Street.

On Friday, police released new video they say shows a car believed to be involved in the shooting.

The video shows the vehicle driving around the corner.

“What we believe to be a Ford sedan vehicle pulled up adjacent to Key,” APD Capt. Ralph Woolfolk said.

Woolfolk said the suspect got out of the vehicle, walked up to Key, robbed him and then shot him.

APD said the shooter got back into the vehicle and left the location.

Woolfolk went on to say that Key was a hardworking man and leaves behind a family.

“This individual was a hardworking man. He was a graduate from one of the top schools here in the city of Atlanta, Morehouse College,” Woolfolk said. “He leaves behind a 7-year-old, an 8-year-old and his wife.”

Channel 2′s Ashli Lincoln talked to Key’s wife and mother on Friday. They say they just want to know why he was targeted.

“This is the worst nightmare. I had the best son,” his mother said.

Key had just gotten married six months ago.

“Sunday would have been six months for us,” his wife, Felicia Key said. “We had plans that I’ve had to cancel.”

Felicia Key said her husband was an entrepreneur who was the life of the party. He even co-created the viral clothing brand “Been Broke Before,” which promoted financial literacy.

“They’ve hurt an entire city,” Felicia Key said through tears. “The city has not rested since this happened.”

Felicia Key said that in the last text messages she got from him, her husband told her he was on his way home.

“You took a part of me,” his mother said.

Felicia Key said she is going to make sure that no one forgets about her husband.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477. They are offering a $35,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
