Body camera footage of woman who fell out of Ga. patrol car to her death released

HANCOCK COUNTY, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is releasing new body camera footage after they say a Georgia woman fell out of patrol car while being arrested. She later died from her injuries.

Brianna Grier’s family is demanding answers as to how their 28-year-old loved one fell out of the backseat of a moving patrol car while handcuffed.

The family says Grier was having a mental episode on July 15 and rather than being taken to a mental hospital, she was arrested.

“When she would have her episodes, we would try to get her help. They would usually take her to the hospital,” father Marvin Grier said.

The GBI says that instead of getting into the car, Grier was lying on the ground near it. One of the deputies arresting her then opened the passenger’s side door, but didn’t close it after they got Grier into the car.

Because the door was open, she wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was wearing handcuffs, the GBI concluded that she fell out of the car as they began driving away.

“I loved Brianna, and I’m going to do whatever I can to bring justice to her,” mother Mary Grier said.

The GBI has now released body camera footage from the night Grier was fatally injured.
